Procedure for Each Storm

FIRST CALL:  Wait for a call from either the Office Administrator or from one of the site managers / supervisors, usually 24 hours before the storm.  BE SURE TO ANSWER YOUR PHONE, AS WE DO NOT LEAVE MESSAGES.  In this first call, you will be given the site name and directions to that site, as well as the meeting place on site and the name of the site person that you need to report to upon your arrival.  It is expected at this time that you will prepare for your snow work, such as:

·         Gather necessary items (snow clothing, foods, etc.).

·         Recharge your cell phone and refill your gas tank, if necessary.

·         Avoid any alcoholic drinks or any substance that could cause drowsiness.

·         Keep your phone where you can hear the next call from us (especially important if the call comes during the night).

Do not call us to inquire about snow shoveling jobs...we will contact you if we need you.

FINAL CALL:  This call may come 1½ to 2½ hours before work begins.  You have already been contacted once and have agreed to work this particular storm.  It is expected now that you are prepared and ready to leave for the job site soon.  In this call, we will tell you the time that you are expected to be at the job site.  Due to obvious storm/road conditions, we have allowed you a 30 to 60 minute travel time.  Plan wisely...better to leave a little early, rather than later (and risk missing the job if you arrive too late and the work is nearly done already).  IF YOU DO NOT ANSWER YOUR PHONE ON THIS FINAL CALL, WE WILL NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE AND WE WILL GO BACK TO OUR LIST TO SEEK OUT ANOTHER AVAILABLE SNOW LABORER.

OTHER REMINDERS:

·         You must have arranged for transportation to and from the work site.

·         Our managers strongly urge that everyone dress warmly with winter gloves, hats, coats, & boots, and, if frigid weather dictates, scarves to protect your lungs/face.

·         Remember to bring spare clothes in the event of worsening conditions and/or longer hours.

·         Bring food for each storm, as long hours may require a break time & nourishment.

·         Finally, we expect that you will work as hard as all our regular employees work:  Do your best work...and get the job done right the first time!
